What is Wegovy?
Wegovy is a prescription weight loss injection containing semaglutide 2.4mg — a GLP-1 receptor agonist developed by Novo Nordisk and MHRA-licensed in the UK specifically for chronic weight management in adults.
Semaglutide is one of the most extensively studied weight loss medications in the world, with evidence from the STEP clinical programme, the SELECT cardiovascular outcomes trial, and the FLOW renal outcomes trial [2].
In the landmark STEP 1 trial, patients taking Wegovy alongside lifestyle intervention lost an average of 14.9% of their starting body weight over 68 weeks — significantly more than placebo and more than any licensed weight loss treatment available before it [1].
Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine (POM) in the UK. It cannot be legally dispensed without a valid prescription from a registered clinician. At Bliss, every prescription is issued following a full online consultation — no GP referral or face-to-face appointment required.

Set off on the right foot with weight loss medication that’s proven to help you hit the ground running and reach your goals faster.
GLP-1 medications reduce cravings by directly influencing the brain's reward centre, reducing the urge to reach for unhealthy snacks.
GLP-1 medications help to lower the body's natural weight ‘set point’, so weight can continue to be lost without hitting a plateau.
By improving insulin sensitivity, GLP-1 medications can help manage weight for everyone - even those with slower metabolic rates.

How much weight could you lose?
Clinical trials for prescription weight loss medication show significant, sustained results for eligible adults. On average, patients in published studies lost between 14% and 21% of their body weight over 12 to 18 months — that's the equivalent of 12–18kg for someone who weighs 85kg.
Your individual results will depend on your starting weight, the treatment your clinician recommends, and how closely you follow your programme. Use the calculator below to see an estimate based on your details.

Frequently asked questions
How many doses are in a Wegovy pen?
Each Wegovy pen contains four doses, lasting four weeks. The pens are colour-coded by dose — you'll receive a new pen when your dose increases.
The exception is the newer 7.2mg dose, which comes as individual single-dose pens (one per injection).[3] For all standard doses (0.25mg through to 2.4mg), one pen = four weekly injections. What dose of Wegovy will I take?
Wegovy uses a 16-week dose escalation schedule: 0.25mg (weeks 1–4), 0.5mg (weeks 5–8), 1mg (weeks 9–12), 1.7mg (weeks 13–16), then 2.4mg as the maintenance dose from week 17.
If you experience significant side effects at any point, your clinician may pause the escalation schedule. All dose changes are guided by your Bliss clinician. Is Wegovy the same as Ozempic?
Wegovy and Ozempic contain the same active ingredient — semaglutide — but are different medicines. Wegovy is licensed in the UK specifically for chronic weight management. Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes management and uses a lower dose. Ozempic is not licensed or prescribed by Bliss for weight loss. Wegovy is the correct, MHRA-approved semaglutide product for weight management.
Is Wegovy the same as Mounjaro?
No — Wegovy and Mounjaro are different medications. Wegovy contains semaglutide (a GLP-1 receptor agonist); Mounjaro contains tirzepatide (a dual GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist). Mounjaro has produced higher average weight loss in clinical trials (20.9% vs 14.9%), attributed to its dual receptor mechanism. Both are available at Bliss. Your clinician will recommend the most appropriate treatment for you.
Is Wegovy as good as Mounjaro?
Both are effective, clinically proven weight loss injections. In clinical trials, Mounjaro produced greater average weight loss (20.9% vs Wegovy's 14.9%), attributed to its additional GIP receptor mechanism.
However, individual responses vary considerably — some patients achieve excellent results on Wegovy and some prefer its established, longer evidence base.
Your Bliss clinician will recommend the most appropriate treatment based on your individual profile. Both are available at Bliss.Does Wegovy work?
Yes — Wegovy has a robust clinical evidence base across multiple large-scale randomised controlled trials. In the STEP 1 trial, semaglutide 2.4mg produced average weight loss of 14.9% over 68 weeks — significantly more than placebo. Results are greatest when combined with dietary changes and regular physical activity.
Individual outcomes vary, but the evidence consistently shows Wegovy produces clinically meaningful weight loss.Is Wegovy safe?
Wegovy is MHRA-licensed for weight management in the UK and has been prescribed to millions of patients worldwide. It is safe when prescribed following a clinical assessment by a registered prescriber.
At Bliss, all prescriptions are issued after a full online consultation confirming eligibility and reviewing contraindications. As a GPhC-registered pharmacy, Bliss dispenses only genuine, manufacturer-supplied Wegovy through regulated UK supply chains. What happens when I stop taking Wegovy?
Clinical data shows that weight typically returns after stopping Wegovy, as the appetite-regulating effects of semaglutide are not permanent. Bliss treats Wegovy as part of a longer-term programme — including dietary support and clinician oversight — rather than a standalone prescription.
When you are ready to stop, your clinician will guide a planned approach and help you maintain results through lifestyle and nutritional strategies. Can I drink alcohol on Wegovy?
Alcohol is not strictly contraindicated with Wegovy, but it can worsen nausea — one of the most common side effects — and adds calories that can slow your progress. If you are also taking diabetes medication, alcohol may lower blood sugar. Moderation is sensible. Speak to your Bliss clinician if you have specific concerns.

Kickstart your journey
Complete a short online health assessment — it takes around five minutes. Your first prescription is dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy and delivered directly to your door.
Healthy, sustainable weight loss
Your treatment dose increases gradually — this is intentional. It gives your body time to adjust and helps minimise side effects. Most Bliss members begin to see consistent, measurable weight loss within 4–8 weeks. Your Bliss dietitian keeps your nutrition on track throughout, ensuring your weight loss is fat loss — not muscle.
Long-term results
For eligible members, the goal is sustained, clinically meaningful weight loss — typically 10–20% of body weight over 12 months. Unlike fad diets, a medically supervised weight loss programme is designed to produce results that last. Ongoing Bliss support ensures your progress is maintained, not reversed.
