What is the Wegovy pill?
The Wegovy pill is an oral tablet formulation of semaglutide — a GLP-1 receptor agonist used for chronic weight management. Developed by Novo Nordisk, it contains 25 mg of semaglutide and is taken once daily. Unlike the Wegovy injection, which is administered subcutaneously once a week, the pill is swallowed — making it the first oral GLP-1 weight loss treatment to receive regulatory approval.
The Wegovy pill received FDA approval in the United States in December 2025 and launched commercially in January 2026. Novo Nordisk submitted an MHRA application for UK approval in late 2025, which has now been approved as of 11 June 2026.

GLP-1 medications reduce cravings by directly influencing the brain's reward centre, reducing the urge to reach for unhealthy snacks.
GLP-1 medications help to lower the body's natural weight ‘set point’, so weight can continue to be lost without hitting a plateau.
By improving insulin sensitivity, GLP-1 medications can help manage weight for everyone - even those with slower metabolic rates.

How much weight could you lose?
Clinical trials for prescription weight loss medication show significant, sustained results for eligible adults. On average, patients in published studies lost between 14% and 21% of their body weight over 12 to 18 months — that's the equivalent of 12–18kg for someone who weighs 85kg.
Your individual results will depend on your starting weight, the treatment your clinician recommends, and how closely you follow your programme. Use the calculator below to see an estimate based on your details.

Frequently asked questions
When will the Wegovy pill be available in the UK?
The Wegovy pill received MHRA approval on 11 June 2026, making it the first oral GLP-1 medication licensed for weight loss in the UK. We are now awaiting stock ahead of a private launch in the coming weeks.
Is the Wegovy pill the same as the Wegovy injection?
Both contain semaglutide and work via the same GLP-1 receptor agonist mechanism. The key differences are how they are taken (once-daily oral tablet vs. once-weekly subcutaneous injection) and dose strength (25 mg daily vs. 2.4 mg weekly).
In separate clinical trials — OASIS 4 for the pill and STEP 1 for the injection — both achieved clinically meaningful weight loss. These trials cannot be directly compared. A Bliss clinician can advise which option is more appropriate for you.
Wegovy pill vs Rybelsus – what is the difference?
No. Both are oral semaglutide tablets, but they are different products developed for different conditions. Rybelsus (3–14 mg daily) is licensed only for the management of type 2 diabetes — it is not approved for weight loss.
The Wegovy pill (25 mg daily) is a separate, higher-dose formulation developed specifically for chronic weight management in adults with obesity or overweight. Bliss does not prescribe Rybelsus for weight loss.
What dose of the Wegovy pill will I take?
The Wegovy pill uses a four-stage dose escalation to minimise side effects: 1.5 mg daily (days 1–30), 4 mg daily (days 31–60), 9 mg daily (days 61–90), then 25 mg daily from day 91 as the maintenance dose. Each stage lasts approximately 30 days. Your Bliss clinician will confirm and monitor your escalation schedule.
Can I switch from the Wegovy injection to the pill?
This is a clinical decision. Now that the Wegovy pill has received MHRA approval, your Bliss clinician can advise whether switching is appropriate based on your individual circumstances, treatment history, and response to the injection. As stock becomes available and consultations open, this will be something your clinical team can discuss with you directly.
Will the Wegovy pill be available on the NHS?
NHS availability will depend on a NICE Technology Appraisal after MHRA approval — a process that typically takes 6–12 months. NHS access for the Wegovy pill is unlikely before 2027 at the earliest. Private prescription access through services such as Bliss is expected to be available in the coming weeks.
What are the most common side effects of the Wegovy pill?
The most common side effects of the Wegovy pill are gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, and stomach pain — affecting approximately 74% of participants in the OASIS 4 trial (compared to 42% on placebo). Headache, fatigue, and dizziness are also commonly reported.
Side effects are most pronounced during dose escalation and typically improve as the body adjusts. Contact your Bliss clinician if you experience severe or persistent symptoms.

Healthy, sustainable weight loss
Your treatment dose increases gradually — this is intentional. It gives your body time to adjust and helps minimise side effects. Most Bliss members begin to see consistent, measurable weight loss within 4–8 weeks. Your Bliss dietitian keeps your nutrition on track throughout, ensuring your weight loss is fat loss — not muscle.
Long-term results
For eligible members, the goal is sustained, clinically meaningful weight loss — typically 10–20% of body weight over 12 months. Unlike fad diets, a medically supervised weight loss programme is designed to produce results that last. Ongoing Bliss support ensures your progress is maintained, not reversed.
