What is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is a prescription weight loss injection containing tirzepatide — a dual GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist developed by Eli Lilly. Mounjaro produces the highest average weight loss of any currently licensed UK weight loss treatment in clinical trials, with an average weight loss of up to 20.9% of starting body weight — results no other single licensed weight loss treatment has matched. [1,2]
Unlike semaglutide-based treatments such as Wegovy, or liraglutide-based treatments like Saxenda and Nevolat, Mounjaro activates two distinct appetite-regulating hormone pathways simultaneously — GLP-1 and GIP. This dual action is the key reason tirzepatide consistently outperforms other GLP-1 injections in head-to-head trial data.
Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine (POM) in the UK and can only be legally dispensed following a valid prescription from a registered clinician. At Bliss, every prescription is issued after a full online consultation — no GP referral or face-to-face appointment required.

Set off on the right foot with weight loss medication that’s proven to help you hit the ground running and reach your goals faster.
GLP-1 medications reduce cravings by directly influencing the brain's reward centre, reducing the urge to reach for unhealthy snacks.
GLP-1 medications help to lower the body's natural weight ‘set point’, so weight can continue to be lost without hitting a plateau.
By improving insulin sensitivity, GLP-1 medications can help manage weight for everyone - even those with slower metabolic rates.

How much weight could you lose?
Clinical trials for prescription weight loss medication show significant, sustained results for eligible adults. On average, patients in published studies lost between 14% and 21% of their body weight over 12 to 18 months — that's the equivalent of 12–18kg for someone who weighs 85kg.
Your individual results will depend on your starting weight, the treatment your clinician recommends, and how closely you follow your programme. Use the calculator below to see an estimate based on your details.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I inject Mounjaro?
Mounjaro can be injected into the abdomen (at least 5cm from the navel), the upper arm, or the outer thigh.
Rotate your injection site with each weekly dose. Avoid areas that are bruised, tender, or have broken skin.
How do I use the Mounjaro pen?
Remove the grey base cap, press the pen firmly against your skin at a 90-degree angle until you hear a click, hold for 10 seconds — keep the pen pressed against the skin until you hear a second click, then count a further 5 seconds before removing. Check the yellow indicator confirms the dose was delivered. Dispose of the pen in a sharps bin immediately.
See the full step-by-step injection guide above.
What happens when you stop taking Mounjaro?
Clinical data shows that weight typically returns after stopping Mounjaro, as the appetite-regulating effects of tirzepatide are not permanent. This is why Bliss treats Mounjaro as part of a longer-term programme — including dietary support and clinician oversight — rather than a standalone prescription.
If and when you are ready to stop, your clinician will guide a planned tapering approach and help you maintain your results through lifestyle and nutritional strategies.
What should I eat on Mounjaro?
There is no strict Mounjaro diet, but clinical guidance recommends a balanced, reduced-calorie diet alongside treatment for optimal results. Prioritise protein (to preserve muscle mass during weight loss), vegetables, and whole foods. Reduce ultra-processed foods and high-fat meals, which can worsen gastrointestinal side effects.
Your Bliss programme includes nutrition coaching — your clinician or support team can provide personalised dietary guidance.
Can you drink alcohol on Mounjaro?
You can drink alcohol on Mounjaro, but it's worth being aware of a few things. Alcohol can make nausea worse — one of the most common side effects — and can lower blood sugar, which matters if you're also taking diabetes medication. It also adds calories that can slow your progress.
Moderation is sensible; if you have concerns, speak to your Bliss clinician.
Does Mounjaro cause hair loss?
Some patients experience temporary hair shedding while taking Mounjaro. This is most likely linked to rapid weight loss — a well-recognised pattern called telogen effluvium that can occur with any effective weight loss treatment. It typically resolves on its own over time.
Worth noting: the SURMOUNT-1 trial showed slightly higher rates of hair shedding on tirzepatide versus placebo (around 5–6% vs 1%) [1], suggesting the medication itself may also play a role.
If you notice significant or persistent hair loss, let your Bliss clinician know.

Your Weight Loss Timeline
See what could be possible in just 12 months with Bliss. A year of expert-led support, a lifetime of healthier habits.
Kickstart your journey
Complete a short online health assessment — it takes around five minutes. A UK-registered Bliss clinician reviews your answers, confirms your eligibility and recommends a weight loss treatment plan tailored to your BMI and health profile. Your first prescription is dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy and delivered directly to your door.
Healthy, sustainable weight loss
Your treatment dose increases gradually — this is intentional. It gives your body time to adjust and helps minimise side effects. Most Bliss members begin to see consistent, measurable weight loss within 4–8 weeks. Your Bliss dietitian keeps your nutrition on track throughout, ensuring your weight loss is fat loss — not muscle.
Long-term results
For eligible members, the goal is sustained, clinically meaningful weight loss — typically 10–20% of body weight over 12 months. Unlike fad diets, a medically supervised weight loss programme is designed to produce results that last. Ongoing Bliss support ensures your progress is maintained, not reversed.
